The Issue

This petition is in response to the options presented by Patriot Hydro/Aquenergy regarding the future of the Ware Shoals Dam.

Two primary alternatives have been proposed:

Option 1: Partial breach of the dam, resulting in the loss of the upstream impoundment
Option 2: Retain the dam structure and restore upstream water levels

This petition calls on decision-makers to support Option 2, which would preserve the dam and maintain the water levels that have long defined our community.

The Ware Shoals Dam is it is part of our town’s history, environment, and recreation. A permanent breach would be irreversible and could bring lasting changes to the river, surrounding properties, and the character of our community.

Option 2 offers a path forward, one that allows for responsible transition while protecting what matters most to local residents.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission considers public input as part of this decision-making process. This means the voices of community members, property owners, and residents can directly influence the outcome.

We, the undersigned, respectfully ask that Option 2 be strongly considered and prioritized in order to protect our community, our river, and our future.

Once this decision is made, it cannot be undone.
