Oppose 50th Street High Density Zoning Change

The Issue

The City of Omaha is proposing a change to the current residential, single family home zoning on 50th Street between Dodge St. and Leavenworth St. to medium density multi-family.  This change would make it easier for developers to purchase some or all of the 100 year old houses on 50th St. and build medium density apartment buildings that could be up to 48 feet high.  In addition to possibly destroying historic homes, it would also negatively impact home values of nearby homes and lead to additional parking congestion.  These homes were built in the early 1920’s and are contributing properties in the Dundee-Happy Hollow National Historic District.  The City Council will have the final say on whether this negative zoning change happens.
