Stop the closure of Hyde Park Surgery, Plymouth

The Issue

The Government plans to cut NHS budgets across the country and Hyde Park Surgery in Plymouth is now a target for closure, in order to save money.

NHS England has said that small practices struggle to offer extended services and opening times, but this is not the case.  Hyde Park has a wide choice of appointments, services and skilled staff. The GP and Nurse clinics are fully staffed, while some other local practices struggle to cover all clinics, and are not due to close.

NHS England has said that it is difficult to recruit GPs.  This is a national problem, not specific to Hyde Park.

Despite claims by NHSE that Hyde Park patients will be moved to other surgeries, there has been no assurance that local practices will have space for new patients.  If Hyde Park closes, people may struggle to find a new GP, and when they do, further pressure will be put on other GP practices, inundated by new patients from practices which have closed down.

Hyde Park’s list size is approaching 2900 patients - other local surgeries which will remain open have less than this.  The Surgery is a going concern and there appears to be no good reason to consider closing it.

This business led approach will harm patients, who are understandably worried.  Hyde Park Surgery needs to remain open for the health of local people and in order not to put further pressure on other practices.
