Resignation/Removal of Aaron Keller and Maria Bogdanova-Peifer from OVSD school board
Resignation/Removal of Aaron Keller and Maria Bogdanova-Peifer from OVSD school board
The Issue
*This is a local petition for the residents, parents, and students of the Oley Valley School District in Berks county Pennsylvania.
On January 10, 2022 during a public committee meeting our students, parents, and members of the community in the Oley Valley School District witnessed bigoted and discriminatory hate speech by Maria Bogdanova-Peifer and Aaron Keller of the OVSD school board. Ms. Peifer and Mr. Keller repeatedly used discriminatory and derogatory language directed towards members of the LGBTQIA+ community while disputing Title IX federal law and school policies.
In June of 1972 Title IX of the Educational Amendments was signed into law. Title IX is a federal civil rights law in the United States of America that prohibits discrimination in Education. Title IX protects all children from discrimination in education. Ms. Peifer and Mr. Keller entered into debate during the committee meeting on January 10th 2022 in reference to federal Title IX law. During this time both parties made it very clear they did not believe in or support Title IX laws and do not believe the school should include Title IX law in it's policy. Both parties voiced their opinions stating they disagree with discrimination protection for children and staff of the LGBTQIA+ community as well as protecting children and staff from discrimination based on creed.
Maria Bogdanova-Peifer and Aaron Keller are in violation of Oath of Office. Upon being sworn into office as school board directors they took an oath to "obey and defend the Constitution of the United States of America and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania". Their discrimination and hate speech on January 10, 2022 and subsequent vote against Title IX federal law policy on January 12, 2022 violated the oath they took and is grounds for removal from office.
It is time to take a stand for all of our children, school staff, and community by signing this petition. All children and adults deserve protection from discrimination.
