Request OLSD Move to Remote Learning for 2 Weeks after Winter Break

The Issue

Olentangy Local School District should go entirely online for at least two weeks after winter break to ensure our community’s safety. In total, we have had 288 student cases and 106 staff cases in the district, the most among all schools in Delaware County and 4th among all schools in Ohio. We are starting to see the consequences of the district staying in hybrid after Thanksgiving with currently 84 active cases. Across the country we have seen the impacts of all of the Thanksgiving gatherings, we don’t want this to happen again after winter break. Many students agree that this would be beneficial. Going remote after winter break may be more feasible than it was after Thanksgiving as there are two weeks to prepare. Additionally, the district is already experienced with remote learning due to its Committed Distance Learning program. With increasing numbers of quarantined students and teachers, it puts a dent in students learning that would be smoothed over with going remote during the worst of the pandemic.
