The Olathe School District has abruptly informed the public about the decision to retire the Visual Arts content area of the Distinguished Scholars 21st Century academy, a program that was founded on the idea of students being well-rounded and excelling in all areas of their education. This decision was made without consulting the DS faculty, and the information was presented to the current DSVA students via email, a completely inappropriate method to share such news. This decision is not only a threat to VA, but a threat to all DS content areas, 21st Century Academies, and art programs across the District. Please help us gain attention from the school board and urge them to veto this action.
