HELP.."Christopher Baxter a nonviolent drug offender serving a 20 yr sentence!"

The Issue

In some way, in some form, addiction has touched every family across America. Christopher is a sweet guy, reliable, and hard working. He owned and maintained two small businesses, he was a father, and a friend to anyone who came near him. Until he lost a battle with addiction over the years he fought this battle and won sometimes ..completed drug court and several parenting educational courses. After loosing everything and everyone in this last battle he has spent the last two years locked away. He signed a plea for 20 years in prison after being offered a whole lot more time. (He just completed his first year) He pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to drug trafficking and now spends his days in violence and terror in a medium security prison living with rapist and murders. Some of which are serving less than 20 years for their crimes of terror. When I hear "Trafficking" I think pounds and pounds coming across the border to infect millions of people. NO.. it is the difference between a poor addict and an addict that is financially better off. If a poor addict could afford one pound they would but unfortunately for those in higher financial brackets they are no longer distributing chargers they are Traffickers! Last weekend Christopher spent his time working on homework from the Character Building program he is in, bible study courses, and mopping up blood from fights that had nothing to do with him so that he could use the phone to call his family. I believe if you do the crime you should pay your time, but is this justice? Does the punishment fit the crime? Violent or nonviolent a person should get justice and a proper sentence for the crime. Please look at this case and many others like it. AND DO SOMETHING PLEASE!
