Allow Municipal High Speed Internet to Compete in Ohio!

Allow Municipal High Speed Internet to Compete in Ohio!
The Issue
A new provision of Ohio House Bill 110 was introduced with a policy that effectively outlaws the expansion of municipal broadband internet in the state. In parts of the state, private internet providers have failed to expand to give all Ohioans access to internet, or service is so spotty and expensive, with no competitive alternatives from which to choose. In response, cities like Fairlawn launched their own internet services to give it's residents access to super high speed internet that is affordable and competitive with private companies (FairlawnGig). The new Ohio HB 110 provision is effectively outlawing cities from providing their own internet service. Allowing municipal internet brings jobs, raises home values and provides an essential service to its residents, when private corporations leave them behind. Please sign this petition opposing the provision of HB 110 that limits the expansion of municipal broadband, and contact your local state and house representatives. Urge them to oppose this unnecessary legislation limiting Ohioans access to internet. This is due to pass before June 30, so please do what you can to help.
