Demand Retirement of Ohio Police K-9 With Long-Term Partner

Demand Retirement of Ohio Police K-9 With Long-Term Partner
The Issue
I am a proud supporter of all law enforcement, including the K9s on the force. I would hate to see Rexo get taken from his retiring partner after 14 years on the force and 3.5 years with Rexo, whom he personally trained for the force. It is not only in the best interest of the officer, but also the K9 to be retired together, and spend their days after the OSHP together. We need to do what is right!!!! The OSHP is more worried about their monetary loss rather than the emotional well-being of the K9. This is heartless. We cannot let this K9 and this family down!!!!!

"I don’t even know where to begin, as today was supposed to be happy, the day I congratulated my husband (and K9 Rexo) on his retirement from the Ohio State Highway Patrol after 14 years of service. Instead our hearts are breaking. Without reason or regard, my husband was told that he does not have the option to retire his K9 partner nor was he given an option to purchase the dog. He was advised that in no way was he able to keep his partner and best friend he has spent every day with for the last 3.5 years. To make matters worse the Ohio State Highway Patrol, whom prides themselves on their morals, values and family importance, advised us to “Keep this issue QUIET.” Well I will not be SILENCED!! Past prior practice of the Ohio State Highway Patrol themselves, have offered every handler, even handlers under disciplinary action, the option to keep their k9! My husband is retiring on good terms, on his own free will, and under no disciplinary action, merely to have more time to focus on our family life. This is not right and I will not be silenced!! Rexo needs to be home where he belongs, with his human dad."
