Declawing is an amputation of the first digits. It is a cruel cosmetic surgery. Most house cats that are declawed (60%) of them get bone regrowth and cause pain the rest of their lives. It also causes behavior issues such as biting and potty issues.In OHIO it is legal to own a BOBCAT (lynx rufus) with a permit that seems to easy to achieve , some vets will declaw them!!! It is a fact that the higher the weight of a cat the worse the declaw becomes. Bobcats can range from 15-40 pounds, the largest up to 60 pounds! Housecats usually around 8-12 pounds. This is a huge difference. When people own these animals they soon discover how hard it is to care for them and often get hurt or bit themselves. They declaw them then cant care for them. They can no longer be put back into the wild without claws, they either die, get abused or put into a cat sanctuary (but if declawed cant be with other cats). It is Illegal to own or declaw a lynx in OHIO but the law has a loophole where a Bobcat is a subspecies of a lynx and not specifically mentioned. Please lets change this. Make Bobcats illegal to own and declaw. To much of our wildlife is dying off and soon we will have no animals. No animals means no eco system! Every animal has a purpose and we should not tare these animals away from the wild to be kept in homes. They have been endangered before and will again if this continues.
