OAC Football Schedule Expansion
The Issue
Recently (October 29) the D-III Presidents Council approved a blanket waiver for all DIII student-athletes. All Division III student-athletes are able to participate in athletics during this academic year without being charged a season of participation or semesters of eligibility.
With this new updated waiver we as student athletes wish to expand our season from 5 games to 8 potential games. This plan will only extend the season one extra week than what has already been set by the OAC.
The divisions will remain the same with each team playing each other and two from the other division with no bye week. After the first 6 games there will be a playoff for the conference championship with the top 2 teams in each division playing each other to represent their division in the Championship game on April 23.
The current setup is four team divisional schedule with a bye included. On April 16th you play your counterpart from the other division (#1 v #1, #2 v #2, etc.)
As student athletes we love our sport and even though the waiver allows for those continuing their schooling to not be affected, there are other players such as seniors who will have a shortened season and miss out on a meaningful season.
