Legacy servers have been growing in popularity during the better part of the last decade, with more and more MMO companies investing in them each year. We believe that Final Fantasy XI belongs on that list, and are asking Square-Enix to produce a level 75 cap era server. Square-Enix should discuss with the community which features and expansions to implement, though the decisions remain ultimately to Square-Enix. It’s important to note that many legacy servers provide a few modern ‘Quality of Life’ changes, and we aren’t expecting Final Fantasy XI to be any different.
If you prefer the older version of Final Fantasy XI, please sign this petition and share it with your acquaintances and communities.
I’m very adamant about this, and will continue to spread the word of this petition as well as provide updates from time to time. I believe that Square-Enix should either develop a level 75 cap era server or sell us a license to do so ourselves, and am willing to crowdfund the purchase of one if Square-Enix approaches me about it.
Thank you for visiting and feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Why not just play Final Fantasy XIV?
While FFXIV and FFXI share many of the same races and creatures, they share little else. Gameplay between the two games is completely different.
Why not just play on a private server?
So many reasons: lack of adequate staff, unprofessional staff, developers with a lack of programming knowledge and experience, bugs bugs bugs, low populations, staff could become bored or shut down the project at any time, and lastly of course Square-Enix could send the server a Cease and Desist Order at any time. Not every server suffers from all of these issues, but all of them suffer from at least a couple. We also would prefer to give our money to Square-Enix themselves for this service.
Why not just play the current FFXI?
Much like FFXIV, the current and old FFXI are simply just two different experiences - two different games, if you will. A lot of us have returned and found that we don’t enjoy many of the modern mechanics and gameplay FFXI has introduced over recent years.
Also to anyone that feels that Abyssea ruined the game for you, let it be known that the Abyssea days are over. Final Fantasy XI’s Ultimate Collection Seeker’s Edition is the entire game with all expansion content, can be purchased for cheap and often goes on sale as well as a sale on server transfers if you feel your server’s population is too low to your liking. The current highest population NA server is Asura, and highest population JP server is Odin. If you have not experienced today’s Final Fantasy XI, I urge you to do so. Help and information can be found on the official FFXI forums as well as the FFXI Reddit and FFXI Reddit Discord server.
Why not just limit yourself to level 75 content on the current FFXI servers?
It’s not the same. Plus, there is no other MMO that requires its legacy players to play on the same servers and gameplay environments with current version players. Legacy players shouldn’t be forced to play within the same environment with those utilizing mechanics and features outside the scope of a legacy experience.
But aren’t the older eras of FFXI extremely time consuming and punishing?
Yes, which is one of the many reasons legacy servers are popular in general, for various MMOs. Gamers are one of the most diverse groups of people in the world, and come from all sorts of different backgrounds and preferences, each player seeking a different type of experience. Fun, entertainment value, and even difficulty are all subjective and viewed contrarily between individuals.
