Give Victoria Wood Her Overdue UK Number One.
Give Victoria Wood Her Overdue UK Number One.
The Issue
On Sunday 17th March 1991, Hale & Pace and The Stonkers topped the UK Singles Chart with "The Stonk" with all proceeds going to Comic Relief.
Also on the Double A sided single was "The Smile Song" by Victoria Wood - however, to this day Victoria (God Rest Her Soul, Always) has never been officially credited, thus denying her a place in the chart history books.
Ahead of the 5th anniversary of her passing next month, I call upon the Official Charts Company to give Victoria the chart recognition she richly deserved at the time.
Thirty years on, "The Smile Song" is the perfect antidote to the madness we are living in right now.
