Dear Citizens,
I have taken note of this petition on Change.org started by Ms. Tejaswini Divya Naik, which is asking the Government of Maharashtra to formally make a public announcement allowing home rental payment collection to be deferred.
Our government has been working proactively to address this particular concern and all others raised by citizens through this platform. As we all know, the nationwide lockdown has been extended to 3rd May as a precautionary measure to protect the general public and to curb the spread of the Coronavirus. This means that all markets, businesses, factories remain closed and all economic activities stand suspended. This in turn has consequences on the livelihood and earnings of the common person, thereby affecting their ability to pay rent among other expenses.
In light of these circumstances, I am happy to share with Ms. Naik, the 20,000 people supporting her campaign and all the citizens of Maharashtra that as of 17th April 2020, the Housing Department of the Government of Maharashtra has issued instructions to all landlords and house-owners to postpone rent collection by at least 3 months. We have also emphasised that no tenant should be evicted from their rented accommodation due to the non-payment of rent out of a sense of consideration and empathy.
I request everyone to stay where they are and follow the lockdown, and take care of yourself and your family.
I invite you to stay updated on the work we are doing by following us on Twitter @satejp

Thank you,
