Provide Reusable/Washable Sanitary Pads To Vulnerable School Girls In Zambia

The Issue

In 2016 through the Finance Minister's annual Treasury budget the Government of the Republic of Zambia promised to provide free sanitary napkins and Menstrual Hygiene resources to vulnerable girls attending school in rural and peri-urban areas of Zambia. This is because as a government they were able to recognise the #PeriodPoverty that exists in many economically vulnerable households in Zambia. Despite 30% of girls reporting to school using unsafe or traditionally unhealthy methods during their period its now 2021 (5 years later) and the Government of the Republic of Zambia has not fulfilled its promise to the thousands of girls that welcomed and celebrated the announcement in 2016. Most of the girls that would have benefited from the initiative are now at the age of completing school and graduating. Its too late to help them however there are thousands more girls just like them that still need the government to honour their promise to them.

Studies show that girls with access to proper Menstrual Hygiene Management education and resources have better and more consistent academic performance and attendance rates.

Help these girls in Zambia by simply signing and sharing.
