On the night of March 12, 2015, Boyd and her friends were hanging out at Douglas Park in Chicago's West Side. A police officer, who was off duty at the time, was going to get a burger at a fast-food restaurant, but he decided to drive to Douglas park after someone called about a noise complaint. He saw Boyd and her friends in an alley, and he approached them. One of Boyd's friends, Antonio Cross, claimed he was trying to buy drugs from them, so he told him to leave. The officer returned to his car, took out a gun, and shot at the group. One of the bullets hit Boyd right in the head, killing her instantly. Cross was also hit, but he wasn't killed.

The Chicago Police Department defended the officer's actions, claiming Cross pulled out a gun first. However, the investigation proved that he was holding his cellphone. The officer was charged with involuntary manslaughter but was CLEARED two years later in a non-jury trial by Judge Dennis J. Porter. Also, before his hearing could announce whether he'd be fired or not, he RESIGNED from his job. He has served no jail time and still walks free with zero charges.

JUSTICE must be served; it's been FIVE years. The petitions that have been made for Rekia on Change.org have been closed, so I am starting this one to bring more attention to her case.
