Recreation of Traditions for Spelman C’O 24 & Transfer Students

Recreation of Traditions for Spelman C’O 24 & Transfer Students
The Issue
Since 2020, we have endured many losses: the remainder of our senior year, graduation, senior prom, and many other high school senior activities. Upon enduring these losses, we came to Spelman College to engage in traditions that make a Spelman woman. While we are grateful for Spelman’s initiative in creating these traditions for us virtually, we remain the only class to lack an in-person Induction Ceremony and Brother Sister Exchange. We do not have an Induction Ceremony photograph in the Spelman office with classes of the past and will not be displayed on the wall with classes of the future. We are unable to reminisce on our Freshman traditions like many classes before us and now, the Class of 2025. We have not been given an inclusive experience like Morehouse College & Clark Atlanta University’s Class of 2024 because we were not invited to participate in organized traditional events like the Spelman Induction Ceremony with over 800 freshman and the Brother Sister Exchange with the Class of 2025 on October 23, 2021. On the other hand, both Morehouse College and CAU gave the Class of 2024 the opportunity to participate in their annual & sacred Induction Ceremonies. We feel unappreciated and ignored by Spelman’s administration and request the implementation of these events.
This petition is entirely unassociated with clubs or organizations of Spelman College and remains a personal campaign for students on Erin Foster's behalf.
