Accessibility of Sydney Academy of Sport Track

The Sydney Academy of Sport and Recreation in Narrabeen is too expensive when compared to other athletics’ facilities around Sydney. Entry to the track is now $6.50, significantly higher than Homebush which is only $5 and offers a much higher standard of facility (note, other facilities like Bankstown are free of charge for athletes who are registered with a NSW Athletics Club).

The exorbitant entry fees at Narrabeen are charged without the provision of hot showers, clean toilets or the maintenance of sandpits, jumping mats and other surrounds (as provided by other facilities). Coaches, who draw up to 20 athletes per session and who are largely volunteers, are also charged entrance fees. Local athletics clubs are quoted up to $1200 for hire, the result being that it’s unaffordable to host any All Comers or other senior competitions in the Northern Beaches.

We are excited about having a new track (having waited many, many years for the upgrade) but we are not excited about being exploited by the management of Sydney Academy of Sport and Recreation. Please sign this petition for fairer entry and hiring rates for our local track.
