This year, NYC placed all students in middle school by random lottery and without any plan for what to do with gifted and accelerated students. These students are languishing at middle schools across the city. They are bored and underchallenged in all subjects, they are coming to dislike school, they are struggling socially and they are being denied the opportunity to learn at a pace and to the extent to which they are capable.

NYC's middle schools are actively harming the city's brightest students, holding them back from achieving their full potential.

Mayor Adams campaigned on a promise of gifted education for EVERY child who needs it and many of us parents supported him. It is time to deliver on that promise - our kids cannot wait until they are in high school, or until it is convenient for the city. We need HONORS classes in ALL subjects, at ALL NYC middle schools starting in the 2022-23 school year, with a curriculum that is truly accelerated and broadened to provide gifted/advanced students with an education that meets their academic needs.
