Charges brought against Khalil Cavil who lied about racist note & defrauded people

The Issue

https://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-trending-44937372

On July 18 a story was reported though out the WORLD WIDE press that a young adult by the name of Khalil Cavil of Odessa, TX reported that while working at the local Salt Grass Steak House was denied a tip by a customer who did so because he has an Arabic first name. He posted a picture to his Facebook page of the receipt that had a note wrote on it stating that "they don't tip terrorist" with a circle around his name.

Upon News of this the tester aunt he worked for immediedtly issued a statement in defense of Khalil and permantly banned the customer for life from their restaurants.

His Facebook post garnered thousands of shares and comments showing empathy. He gave an interview to a local new station evoking the name of Jesus Christ to perpetuate the story stating he prays the customer finds Jesus in his heart. The community came to his defense and donated money out of sympathy of what he claimed to have endured. What has been reported to be $1000.00 or more dollars.

Khalil claimed he was first going to donate the money to a church ministry and later stated would use the donation for expenses for when he attended Dallas Baptist in the fall.

However since the original story aired it has now come to light at Khalil's own admission that he fabricated the entire story and Salt Grass the restaurant he worked for has confirmed this as well.

His family has come forward and also admited to the false story via their Facebook page although has since taken down their message.

Upon further investigation it turns out Khalil does not by any means of any imagination resemble a person who is from a Middle Eastern country. His father is African American and his Mother is White. Khalil's facial characteristics and hair features are that of an African American. He was raised by his mother and step father in an affluent upper class predominantly white neighborhood. His step father comes from a wealthy white family who owns a large Farmers insurance agency. Khalil also attends a predominantly white church.

Khalil claims that his motive was to bring light to racism. However it likely now seems to be that fraud may have been the motive. He claims that the majority of the money has been returned since the truthhas surfaced however how can this individual be truly trusted without a proper investigation considering the extent of the lies he told. Because of the world wide attention his story has gathered it is important we do not allow such actions to go unchecked and without true penalty. This could have potentially ruined the innocent customer's  life or caused them harm out of public anger. If we allow this type of division and fraud to happen without punishment it can only invite more of the same behaviors.

We are asking that Bobby Bland the local District Attorney investigate if Criminal Charges should be brought against Khalil Cavil or make a public statement justifying why they should not be. Please sign the attention if you agree.
