October 16th. 7:30 PM. Vols. Rebels. Black Uniforms.
January 12, 2010 is a day that Tennessee fans will remember forever. It is the day Lane Kiffin left the Vols to coach the USC Trojans after just one season on Rocky Top. This move was truly shocking to all of Vol Nation and has left a bad taste in Vol fans’ mouths ever since. This is our chance for revenge.
Flashback to Halloween night 2009. The Vols, led by Lane Kiffin, storm onto the field and are met with the roars of tens of thousands of fans, as usual. However, something was different this time. Black jerseys. All the rage and fanfare for the new jerseys was met with a 31-13 win over South Carolina.
Now we’re back to 2021. The Vols are currently 12 days away from playing against Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss Rebels. It has just been announced the game will kick off at 7:30 PM on October 16th and Tennessee fans are ready to fill up Neyland Stadium and make it a living hell for the Rebels. There has never been, and may never be, a better time to bring back the Black Jerseys. The man that brought the jerseys back will be on the other sideline. The man that went 7-6 before taking the coward’s way out will be on the other sideline. The time has come for the Tennessee Volunteers to step onto Shields Watkins Field at Neyland Stadium wearing black uniforms once again.
