Happy Thanksgiving 2025: Today This Petition Ends with 361 Supporters

After more than 4 months of advocating for and managing this Ocklawaha River restoration-related, sign-for-free online petition that I created – “OCKLAWAHA RIVER RESTORATION Rally FL LEGISLATURE to OVERRIDE GOVERNOR DESANTIS’ VETO” – I am ending it today with 361 supporters.

Within this petition I only posted information associated with the controversial Ocklawaha vs. Rodman issue that was accurate and documented by official government agencies and other credible sources or supported by my own in the field / on the water observations backed by written logs and photographs. And never did I solicit or accept any financial contributions from anyone for this cause, believing that stating your opinion in favor of Ocklawaha River restoration should be free for you just like voting in a real election.

On this day of Thanksgiving 2025 it has become evident to me that this petition does not have enough support to justify my time and effort in continuing its existence. It is apparent to me that most folks “march to the beat of a different drum” and listen only to what they want to hear when considering this contentious issue. Granted if there were hundreds of thousands of people who believed in Ocklawaha River restoration – that were registered voters – they would have a great opportunity to influence the legal real property owner of the lands and waters involved, the government of the State of Florida (in its entirety). But I haven’t seen any evidence of those kinds of numbers.

Thank you to all that signed this petition for your sincere interest in this Ocklawaha River vs. Rodman Reservoir argument and your willingness to affix your name and pro-restoration opinion to this petition.

Happy Thanksgiving 2025,

Ocklawahaman” Paul Nosca

On June 30, 2025, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) performed a line-item veto of the $6.25 million that the Florida Legislature in SB 2500 had approved and appropriated in the 2025-2026 FY budget that was delivered to the Governor on 6/27/25.

Then on July 11, 2025, Kevin Spear of the "Orlando Sentinel" newspaper in his editorial FLOATED THE IDEA of the Florida Legislature OVERRIDING Governor DeSantis' VETO of the $6.25 million appropriation for OCKLAWAHA RIVER RESTORATION!

To encourage the Florida Legislature when it next convenes -- SPECIAL or REGULAR SESSION -- to place on its agenda AN OVERRIDE of the Governor's LINE-ITEM VETO of the SB 2500 $6.25 million appropriation for "OCKLAWAHA RIVER RESTORATION", all of us restoration supporters would need to EMAIL OUR OWN DISTRICT'S STATE OF FLORIDA SENATOR and HOUSE MEMBER to register our feelings regarding the veto of the $6.25 million "Ocklawaha River Restoration" appropriation!

Since SB 2500 is a FL SENATE bill, only the FL SENATE will receive Governor DeSantis' "SIGNED OBJECTIONS" to this "Ocklawaha River Restoration" $6.25 million. THUS, the FL SENATE would have to consider the prospect of a veto override in this matter AT ITS NEXT MEETING -- whether it is a SPECIAL SESSION sometime later in 2025 or its REGULAR SESSION in Spring 2026 -- and vote to re-enact the measure BEFORE it would go back to the FL HOUSE for their consideration of the override proposal. A ONE TIME ONLY 2/3rds vote of both the FL SENATE and the FL HOUSE would be required for this OVERRIDE of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' LINE-ITEM VETO of the $6.25 million appropriation for "OCKLAWAHA RIVER RESTORATION" to be effective!!!

This was the vote for the entire SB 2500 Appropriations Bill back on 6/16/25: SENATE 34 Y, 0 N; HOUSE 103 Y, 2 N.

"Ocklawahaman" Paul Nosca NOTE (A): In both the Florida House and the Senate the Y vote for the entire appropriations bill was well beyond the 2/3rds super majority threshold.

My own FL SENATE district is 9 therefore my own Florida State Senator is STAN McCLAIN (R). HE would be the first person that I would send an email to. I am able to email STAN at https://www.flsenate.gov/Senators/S9

My own FL HOUSE district is 20 therefore my own Florida State Representive is JUDSON SAPP (R). I am able to email JUDSON at this link https://www.flhouse.gov/Sections/Representatives/contactmember.aspx?MemberId=4907

"Ocklawahaman" Paul Nosca NOTE (B): Any of you "Ocklawaha River Restoration" supporters out there WOULD NEED TO EMAIL YOUR OWN DISTRICT'S FLORIDA STATE SENATOR (first priority) and then at a later date YOUR OWN DISTRICT'S FLORIDA STATE REPRESENTATIVE.

It most likely ACHIEVES NOTHING to NOT email your own DISTRICT'S STATE LEGISLATOR (HE and/or SHE is the person that represents you). And it most likely achieves NOTHING to email your United States Congressional representative or senator AS THIS IS A STATE OF FLORIDA DECISION TO BE MADE AND IS NOT A FEDERAL ISSUE.

"Ocklawahaman" Paul Nosca NOTE (C): I have been a conservative Republican since 1968 when at the age of 16, I was a volunteer worker in the "Nixon for President" campaign in Pinellas County, Florida but I differ with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis about this appropriation. At a young age I was fortunate enough to see Richard Nixon, Florida Governor Claude Kirk, Bill Cramer, Ed Gurney, Tommy Thomas, and a young George W. Bush (on leave from the Texas Air National Guard). This was the very beginnings of the modern conservative Republican Party of Florida.

It was with the encouragement of Florida Governor Claude Kirk (R) that U.S. President Richard Nixon (R) in 1971 ordered a HALT to all further construction of the Cross Florida Barge Canal project which saved the Ocklawaha River from total annihilation and WHY THE OCKLAWAHA REMAINS TO THIS DAY RESTORABLE!

I am a NOT a member of and I am NOT affiliated with any "non-profit" organization! And it is not my wish to be some kind of a community activist at environmental gatherings and such. I do not seek, and I will not accept your $$$ for my work for conservation. But I do believe in the restoration of a free-flowing Ocklawaha-Silver River system and have been advocating for it since 2006.

My best work is done from a canoe out along a jungle-lined stream. I am a 73-year-old US ARMY veteran of E. Asia and If I see no other human out in the boonies all day besides maybe a close friend that is just fine with me as I am a loner by nature. BASS FISHING is a passion of mine that I started to enjoy back in 1965 when I was 13 years old.

Some MEMORABLE BASS 1966 to 2024!
