Ochsner Medical Center: Put in place policies that protect employees from retaliation and discourage racial discrimination
The Issue
I was a four year employee of Ochsner, and was promoted twice, before I became a 'whitleblower' and was subsequently harassed, had my pay cut, and finally fired. After going through the proper channels, my complaints were never truly investigated beyond speaking to the supervisor I was being harassed by, which, of course made it worse. I was never questioned by HR concerning my allegations, until the 'investigator' terminated me along with said supervisor. I was made to feel unworthy of the title I earned and undeserving of the money I made. I was even told it would be unfair to white employees new to my position for me to make more money than them! No one should have to work with the knowledge your superiors feel you are inferior, and anyone with a lighter skin tone can do your job better than you. But one can only do what is allowed, and at every turn obvious wrongdoing and abuse of power was overlooked or swept under the rug. Ochsner needs to update their 'good ole boy' mentality, and set an example of equal employment opportunities as a healthcare leader in Louisiana, and the nation.
