Did you know Vista Unified is going back to full time school next week?
Yes, this is no trick but perhaps a treat for Vista parents and kids.
It's true. Vista Unified's Board met yesterday and decided to stay with their plan - to return to full time in person instruction starting next week, on October 20th.
It was a long and contentious Board Meeting, with so many parents speaking out they had to restrict the time allowance for each speaker.
There were FOURTEEN THOUSAND of their parents watching.

Meanwhile, in Oceanside's last Board meeting we had perhaps 5 or so parents speak.

Oceanside, of course, has no announced plan to go back to full time instruction in a way safe for parents and kids, and is only starting hybrid for elementary school on 11/9.
The difference? Again. Vista had FOURTEEN THOUSAND of their parents willing to get involved.
Meanwhile, the California State Health and Human Services Secretary has said:
“we have not seen a connection between increased transmission and school reopening or in-person learning."
A recent panel was hosted by CBS 8, including a local Superintendent with experience in their schools (David Miyashima of Cajon Valley), the San Diego County Superintendent of Schools (Paul Gotthold) experts from Rady’s Childrens Hospital on transmission among kids, and the San Diego DA (Summer Stephen).
The conclusion, from the Rady's experts, was:
While we’re worried, it’s not a big enough worry to keep kids from going to school”
And the San Diego County Superintendent of Schools said:
“There has not been a spread inside the school, an outbreak in the school, community transmission at the school…. Kids that have tested positive was a result of contact outside the school”

Oceanside has no more Board meetings before the start of hybrid, but they are holding the first District Parent Advisory Committee meeting next week, on Tuesday October 20th from 6 - 7:30pm.
