Petition updateWhat are OUSD's Options for Full Time Traditional School This Fall?

Almost 450 signatures.... and what are our neighbor districts doing?

Some significant events yesterday...

First, we're almost at 450 signatures.  Thanks to all of you for both joining us in this effort as well as spreading the word.

Next, last night we saw several districts, including Carlsbad Unified, vote in favor of some form of traditional five day schooling for their kids this fall.

The Carlsbad discussion in particular was illuminating - their presentation was thorough, their concerns for safety obvious, and their Board asked hour after hour of hard questions - to make sure their plan was the best for their students and staff.

Their plan has the same caveat they all do - "only if it can be done safely when we get there", (which we would agree with) but at least their Board was presented with the opportunity to make a decision - and they did.

How about Oceanside?  Regardless of your feelings on whether full five day schooling will be appropriate or safe when we get there, don't you feel your Board should at least be presented with that option to vote on?

Especially given it was the preference of the majority of parents?

Or is ignoring the voice of parents acceptable, if it's on an issue you may differ with?

We don't think so.  We think the district should always pay attention to parent voices, and in cases where there are differences present the options and let the Board decide.

How about you?
