Ocean Pollution

Ocean Pollution

The issue

Don't be mean; keep the oceans clean

Using fishing lines and nets should be banned. Sea animals often die due to suffocation in this dangerous equipment. Your weekend relaxation could result in the death of innocent, poor creatures.

Fishing lines have an atrocious and deadly impact on our loved oceans and seas.

Evidence of this is:

There are currently more then 300 brightly covered, recycled plastic bins installed at popular fishing locations across Victoria. So far these bins have collected a whopping 70km of fishing line! They have also collected tens of thousands of hooks, sinkers and bait bags

There is also approximately 8 million tones of rubbish entering our oceans every year. Right now our oceans are filled with 5.25 trillion tones of rubbish. Plastic like fishing line results in the suffocation and death of many animals.

If this continues all the fish will die. We will have no clean water, no beaches and 70% of our world will be uninhabitable and ugly. These are only a tiny fraction of the problems pollution, over fishing and fishing equipment can cause.

We can't change the past but we can change the future. We need to start cleaning our oceans. We need to stop and reduce fishing and stop using plastic and other harmful materials that negatively impact our oceans.

As a person you can stop fishing, clean the beaches on the weekend or in your free time (join a cleaning community) and use recyclable products only. And sign this petition!
