For many San Diegans, the ocean is an integral part of our lives. Many of us engage in ocean activities that provide recreation, support physical and mental health, and renew our spirits. Examples include freediving, SCUBA diving, spearfishing, open water swimming, kayaking, and paddle boarding. These activities do not require prolonged use of beach areas — merely the use of the beach for ocean access. Furthermore, they can be practiced alone  or while maintaining safe social distancing. That is, they can be practiced without spreading COVID-19. End the Draconian measures that prevent serious waterwomen and watermen from being able to enter the ocean. We request that the ban on beach use be modified to allow San Diego’s ocean enthusiasts City beach access strictly for the sake of entering and exiting the ocean.
