Developer threatened two residents with being reported to the police for “Racial discrimination” if posters of protests are not removed.
Sadly this week the developer has attempted to intimidate and bully two residents of the Sedges.
The developer became aware of 2 posters which sit on fence panels on Newts way. They are on private property and object to the development. Permission was granted by the local councillors to erect these posters of objection.
The developer emailed 2 residents claiming,
“This action is intimidatory, offensive and tantamount to racial and gender discrimination”
However one resident is of Sri Lankan background , the other is of Ghanian decent.
The developer who is of Ghanian descent emailed both residents stating:
“ I hope you agree that, regardless of differing views of the ecohome development, this behaviour is un-neighbourly and unacceptable. Unless these notices are removed immediately, I hope those responsible will understand that I will have no alternative but to report the matter to the Sussex Police.”
The developer went on to find the employers of one of the residents via LinkedIn and reported them to their employers for “racial discrimination”. This behaviour is unacceptable.
Every resident has the right to an opinion
We have the right to protest and object
We have the right to petition
Our response to the developer is below
“Your accusations stating that our posters are “tantamount to racial and gender harassment” are not only non-sensical but frankly serve as even more evidence of you using abhorrent tactics and FALSE accusations to push forward your agenda. In no way will I remotely tolerate this and I draw attention to the fact that our petition objecting to the proposed development on Newts Way has over 367 objections, signed by people of all genders and ethnic backgrounds.
The local residents will not be bullied or intimidated by your false accusations or threats of police action.”
In my opinion using the race card to make profits from selling houses is shameful and only takes away from actual people who suffer with racism.
Objecting to this development has nothing to do with the developer being of BAME origin.
As author of this petition I have stated I am of BAME origin.
We object because of the following reasons
-It will cause a loss of important green space
-Multiple hazel trees will be cut down
-it will harm the adjacent oak tree which will struggle to thrive
-There are protected Newts and dormice living in the area
- It will have a major impact on the safety and enjoyment of the playpark adjacent to the plot.
- There will be a loss of privacy to multiple homes and gardens
- There is inadequate parking for 4 houses which will cause congestion on the roads
