The Issue

Imagine coming home from a long day at school, switching on your favourite football game on TV, and dreaming of being out on that field, showing your skills and passion for the game. That dream stays in your heart because,  Old Bridge High, there is no girls' flag football team. But what if our school could become a place where those dreams take flight, right here on our fields?

Football is not just a game; it's a community, a passion, and, most importantly, an opportunity. Yet, our school only offers a boys' football team, leaving half of our potential players on the sidelines. The absence of a girls' team is not only about equality in sports but also about providing the chance for girls to develop teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship. Flag football is a safer, inclusive, and exciting sport that can be played by everyone.

The importance of offering girls' sports is well-documented. According to the Women's Sports Foundation, girls who participate in sports get better grades, have higher self-esteem, and are healthier overall. Schools in other districts have successfully introduced girls' flag football with tremendous attendance and support. If they can do it, why can't we?

Here's how we can make it happen: first, we need a commitment from our school administration to support the launch of a girls' flag football team. This includes helping us secure access to practice fields, organizing interested coaches, and promoting the team to build a fan base within our community. Additionally, we can reach out to local businesses and organizations for sponsorships to fund jerseys and equipment.

This is the first step towards opening up more avenues for young girls to participate in sports they love. Let’s rally together and ensure that every girl here gets the chance to play the sport they’re passionate about.

Join me in urging our school to start a girls' flag football team. Sign this petition today and help make a difference in the lives of countless students.
