Your continued support of this cause is truly amazing. Our petition has grown now to nearly 18,000 signatures in the course of a week, and more news outlets, and organizations reach out daily asking what they can do to spread both this petition, and Draylen Masons legacy to the rest of the country. Locally we have spoken with both the Oberlin News Tribune, the paper for the town of Oberlin, and the Oberlin Review, the colleges official news paper. We want to make sure that everyone gets to hear Draylen's story and see his face constantly around the Oberlin community.
But the fight isn't over yet.
We continue to reach out to people across the country daily hoping to add more voices to our petition and make it impossible for Oberlin College & Conservatory to go online without being reminded of Draylen. The administration continues to ask all people to support the Draylen Mason Memorial Fund towards the rebuilding of Draylen's family home and the covering of medical expenses for his mother (https://www.youcaring.com/joneswilsonfamily-1129040) as well as donating money to the Draylen Mason Fellows Program to support the young artists involved in the Austin Soundwaves program in which Draylen played a pivotal role (https://thehispanicalliance.org/draylen). These are incredibly important funds that we wholeheartedly support and encourage you to donate towards.
However, we continue to stand behind the belief that Oberlin College & Conservatory has the opportunity to rally behind Draylen Mason, and all future Draylen Mason's in supporting black artists at the collegiate level with this proposed scholarship fund and honorary degree. It is imperative that we have institutions in place at the collegiate level with increased accessibility to minority students, and Oberlin can pave the way for countless other conservatories and higher education institutions to follow suit.
Keep sharing, keep speaking, and keep believing.
Respectfully,
Joshua
