Stop Westlake Middle School Closure

Stop Westlake Middle School Closure
The Issue
The Oakland Unified School District Board of Education has slated Westlake Middle School to be closed to Oakland middle school scholars. The Westlake community is 98% families of color and includes almost 40 Special Day Class students. Many families work in healthcare and Westlake is located close to two major hospitals making Westlake a convenient choice for families.
OUSD has accepted huge amounts of money from extremely generous organizations like the Golden State Warriors and Salesforce, some of which was used to improve the Westlake campus and gymnasium for our historically underserved community. And now the school board intends to consolidate middle schools on another campus.
Please join us in demanding that Westlake be removed from the closure and consolidation list. Children of color and their families should not bear the brunt of OUSD budget deficits. We want generous local donors to know that their gifts to our schools are appreciated and used as promised or they should consider not supporting the school district with funds that are not utilized for the greatest good.
