One third of Austin Gardens is in danger. A developer called Albion wants to build a 16 story building right next to Austin Gardens, which would shade out a third of the park, subsequently killing it. 

We can help by raising awareness and voicing our concerns to the Oak Park Board of Trustees AND the developers at Albion. 

Pretty much every Oak Parker has spent some time in Austin Gardens, whether it be seeing a show during the Oak Park Festival Theater season, taking a stroll,  having a picnic, or enjoying the 200+ trees in the park. We don't want to mess this up. Below are some more facts about the proposal. 

"Austin Gardens is a passive park that is highly used by many for strolls and picnics to escape and enjoy nature. The Park District wants to ensure the health and beauty of the park remains as many new residents move into the area adjacent to the park. With the completed 21-story Vantage building at the corner of Forest and Lake, a shadow is being cast on the park especially blocking the morning sun. There are increasing concerns with the potential of a new development located across the street at 1000 Lake Street being constructed taller than current zoning ordinance and thus, minimizing sunlight in the park.
