O-MY-SAY NO TO - CABIN VILLAGE IN OJAI MAINTENANCE YARD-LIBBEY PARK

The Issue

The City of Ojai has proposed a permanent supportive homeless shelter (Cabin Village) right next to Libbey Park, Downtown Ojai, and multiple residential neighborhoods. This project is intended to provide 30 cabins for its permanent residents (current Ojai Tent Town), with services for substance abuse treatment, mental health care, and intensive case management.

This location is entirely inappropriate for such a project!

While we support helping those in need, we strongly believe that this project should be relocated to a site that does not endanger the safety of our children, families, and businesses. The idea of having an intensive treatment facility with armed security just steps away from Libbey Park—where children play, families gather, and people enjoy public events—is simply unacceptable.

Ojai residents, business owners, and neighbors were not properly consulted, and alternative sites were not properly vetted. To make matters worse, it was revealed that armed guards would be patrolling the facility. The combination of intensive treatment services and armed security, in close proximity to our beloved city park and family-oriented residential areas, raises significant concerns about safety, the quality of life for residents, and the overall well-being of our community.

Conduct a proper vetting of alternative sites.

We urge the City Council and Planning Commission to halt plans for the project at this location and work with the community and the county of Ventura to find a safer, more appropriate site for the housing and treatment services that will truly help the unhoused while protecting the integrity and safety of our neighborhoods.

What we ask:

  • Immediate suspension of the current plans for this homeless housing project at Ojai Maintenance Yard / Libbey Park.
  • Transparent consultation with residents and businesses about alternative locations.
  • Relocation of the project to a site that is better suited for the needs of both the unhoused and the safety of our community.

Please add your voice to help make sure that Ojai remains a safe, peaceful place for all. We can still show compassion for those in need—but this project needs to be in a better location. Sign now to protect our community and find a solution that works for everyone.

Thank you for your support. Together, we can make a difference.
