Preserve Golf Headquarters Family Golfplex

The Issue

Golf Headquarters welcomes tens of thousands of children, teens, and families each year. The sale of this green space would impact the accessibility to the game of golf by a significant portion of the community both financially and logistically. In addition to multiple other organizations, the complex is used by the Fort Zumwalt, Francis Howell, and Wentzville School District golf teams. As well as St. Dominic, Duchesne, Lindenwood, and last but not least a huge part of the whole CYC program as there are no other similar facilities located in St. Charles County. Additionally, Golf Headquarters and Family Golf provides a unique opportunity for people of all ages and ability levels to spend time together, socialize and be active.

Rezoning the land to accommodate for the development of apartments would result in a detrimental impact on the O’Fallon community. Located adjacent to a middle school, the additional traffic would significantly increase traffic congestion and pose serious safety concerns to school children. Residents of the local neighborhood and those enjoying the Renaud Center would also be impacted by the extra traffic. Furthermore, the land is in a known flood plain with a history of flooding. Changing the zoning would require substantial attention to regrading as it will have a direct impact on all local facilities and waterways.
