Get the FreeStyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring System funded in New Zealand
This petition had 6,587 supporters
The FreeStyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring System is a new product in New Zealand for people with Type 1 Diabetes. It was made available to adults in April 2017 and children from 4 to 17 in February 2018.
It is currently not funded and not even stocked in pharmacies. The distributor Mediray+ only sell to individuals online through their website. It is $85.16+GST for the reader which is a one off cost, and each sensor also costs the same. Sensors only last for 14 days. It's costing me $200.87 every month.
This technology is amazing and has helped my 12yr old daughters blood glucose levels become easier to read, monitor and stabilize.
Achieving good control will result in huge longterm savings to the health system, because we will hopefully avoid the chronic consequences resulting from poorly controlled diabetes.
I will be printing off this petition and handing it to either my local MP Ian McKelvie or the minister of health David Clark.
