After years of service, four mail room attendants at NYU's Washington Square Village have been told that their service may be summarily terminated, and that they may have to re-apply for the jobs they have already been discharging satisfactorily. This will cause grave inconvenience to the more than 1000 residents they service in the four buildings, nearly all of whom the attendants know personally, and therefore are able to help in numerous ways. In their place the building residents (of whom NYU faculty comprise the largest single segment) may get younger employees earning less money, with less incentive to learn the ways of the building residents, and of uncertain tenure.
