NYU Langone: Keep Providing Care to Trans Kids

NYU Langone: Keep Providing Care to Trans Kids
The Issue
We,
New Yorkers,
NYU students and alums,
NYU Langone patients and prospective patients,
Demand NYU Langone reinstate the appointments of the transgender children they canceled in an attempt to comply with President Trump's anti-scientific and cruel attack on transgender people everywhere. Do not comply. Reinstate all scheduled appointments and continue to provide gender affirming care to youth and adults alike without a deadline.
If our demands aren't met, we will cease all collaboration with NYU Langone and take our personal as well as our families' care to other, trans-friendly providers.
In solidarity,
New Yorkers, and Allies to Trans Youth
See our extended letter below:
To Dr. Robert Grossman and All This May Concern,
It is deeply disappointing and disturbing to have heard the actions taken against transgender youth seeking medical aid from NYU Langone. The NYC community deserves to receive care from an institution that upholds basic ethical principles and provides equitable care to all within the community. Given its status as a leading NYC health system, it's disconcerting to see how far NYU Langone has fallen as a trusted institution as a result of these failures. It should be needless to say that healthcare is a right for all, including Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming (TGNC) people.
The American healthcare system has a long history, and its past acts of discrimination against LGBTQIA+ will not be forgotten. Witnessing NYU Langone take regressive steps towards these outdated and cruel administrations concerns us deeply. As you should know, comprehensive healthcare has become a vital aspect to the wellbeing of TGNC people, and critical to preventing their self-harm and suicide. As a healthcare provider, it's your sworn responsibility to uphold your integrity, treat all patients with respect, and do all within your power to protect those who come to you for care.
We call on you to act on these concerns and demonstrate your ability to lead NYU Langone away from discriminative policies that hold grave ramifications for our city. Please, rest assured: should action not be taken, NYU Langone will not see business or support from any of us. Furthermore, we will do all
within our power to persuade others to follow suit. We entrust you to live up to your credentials and commitments to doing no harm.
We have also compiled a list of resources pointing to the necessity of gender-affirming care and its significance as an adverse outcome prevention tool:
