NY Pass CVA started this petition to NYS LEGISLATURE

Every week, there seems to be yet another heartbreaking child sexual abuse scandal here in New York.

It's a nationwide problem: one in six boys and one in four girls will be sexually abused before the time they are 18. Children with disabilities are 2.9 times more likely to be sexually abused than children without them. It can take years -- even decades -- for survivors of child sexual abuse to even begin to talk about their abuse. By then, the statute of limitations in New York will have expired.

In New York State, most survivors only have until the age of 23 to report child sexual abuse. In cases of institutional neglect and cover up, a victim only has until age 21. After that, the doors to justice are closed forever.

That is simply not enough time.

We are so close to reforming our laws by passing the Child Victims Act: legislation that would extend the statute of limitations and provide a critical one year lookback window for survivors of childhood sexual abuse.

But not without your help.

Sign here to pledge your support for the Child Victims Act and let your lawmakers know statute of limitations reform and lookback windows work. In other states, they have been so successful that they have been extended.

It’s time we had a New York State government that prioritizes protecting children and survivors over the institutions and people who have harmed them.
