Reinstate Mamaroneck/Larchmont Resident's Privacy & Quality Of Life from MTA Deforestation
Why this petition matters

Dear Governor Andrew Cuomo,
We need your help and support.
You are likely not yet aware of what Metro North Railroad Authority has done to change the way we live and enjoy our homes.
Along the train tracks that run behind a section of Mamaroneck / Larchmont, NY on Harmon Drive from Rockland Avenue to Weaver Street, all trees and vegetation have been cut down, destroyed, and eliminated leaving the backyards of homeowners fully exposed to the train.
These trees had served as a buffer zone to noise and air pollution as well as a privacy protection which allowed families to enjoy their property without being on display to commuters several times a day.
In addition, the land where there was a forest of trees and plants and wildlife is now a pit filled with a 4 foot high "tub" of Gravel that spans a few hundred feet.
When our kids play in their backyards they can smell the oil, and the carcinogenic creosote emanating from the gravel. It's a total disgrace.
This action by Metro North will surely have a negative effect on property values not only for these homes, but every home in the neighborhood as listing price is based on comps in the area.
We also would ask you and The Board of Directors appointed by you to consider that residential areas can and should be looked at differently than industrial areas when making decisions that affect so many citizens in your state in such a devastating way.
Due to the disastrous deforestation that has taken place throughout the neighborhood, we NEED Metro North Authority to remove the possibly toxic gravel that has been dumped and to install a sound barrier fence along with some plants and shrubs on the side of tracks that has now directly exposed property owners to the train, it's commuters and workers, and a much louder train roar. This will help property owners recover their privacy, property value and environment health back.
