Remove JRC from the Approved List for Out of State Residential Schools

Remove JRC from the Approved List for Out of State Residential Schools
The Issue
The Judge Rotenberg Center is a private residential treatment center in Canton, MA, that has been cited as torturous by the United Nations Rapporteur of Torture and has been featured on Fox, CNN's Anderson Cooper and more for its aversive therapeutic treatment. The shock device they use, known as the GED and GED-4, is not currently approved for use by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Out of all states that send students to the Judge Rotenberg Center, New York State sends, by far, the most students to the center. According to the latest statistics obtained on June 10th, 2011 from the New York State Education Department, New York State had 131 students enrolled at the Judge Rotenberg Center as of May 2011. Through extensive research, it is my understanding that it costs over $200,000 per year per student. Therefore, this is costing New York State taxpayers at least $26.2 million dollars per year. Paying any sum of money for the extensive and brutal torture of our most fragile population is extremely ethically wrong. Please sign this petition and help save these students and large sums of taxpayer money from going to the torture of children with disabilities.
