I’ve been racing the NYOA series my entire life since, I was three years old, and it’s never been more clear than there’s a huge safety issue that the series has not controlled. They say that they’re working on new ideas yet have you heard anything? Maybe it’s just all private conversations because gossip spread so fast these days. Maybe there is something in the works but the simple fact is that NYOA is large enough and that it should’ve split the C and B/A rider into separate races a long time ago. This can be done a variety of different ways and some even including two day events. I am not a member of the NYOA  board or committee, I am creating this petition to show the series how serious of an issue this is. They say that numbers are not hurting so basically why would they want to change? My simple answer is how can you put on a race that is unsafe and causes Unnecessary injuries that could be avoided if races were separated. This is not a one-sided argument for A riders. It’s clear that on my Facebook post many comments showed there is a lot of interest in this. It also allowed C rider and family members to share how they feel. They are just as nervous about us passing them and hitting them as we are. Many have already left the series due to this issue. A High level NYOA official stated that they are disappointed in my approach, and made it pretty clear they did not like it. What’s not to like about the NYOA family stating how it feels? If anything they should be happy the conversation got started and people can talk freely. I shouldn’t be the one making a petition about this, rider reps should be do what you elected them to do and reach out to the riders they represent and finding out what needs to be worked on. I guess that hasn’t been happening? Have you talked with your rep? 

One big concern I always hear from people who are part of the series is how are you going to pay for it? For those of you that don’t know promoters make thousands of dollars off of one of these events. Some but not all promoters do the bare minimum and put on unsafe events. I’m talking about Dusty races putting 1 ton Hay bales in the middle of wide open straightaways Sunday morning. So everyone who’s walk the track on Saturday had no idea they were there. Or how sticks are coming back and stabbing people in the eyes and they have stumps and roots that are unmarked in the middle of wide open sections. I think it’s very clear that this series does not always put its riders first and I think that needs to change. The promoters do not want to spend the extra money because it will decrease the amount of profit they make. Yes it costs more to have extended races or split up the races due to fees for ambulance, insurance etc. I guess our safety just isn’t important to them as money. 

I can tell you as being the 2021 NYOA Overall Bike Champion, the series has never been worse, at least for bikes. We lap people the beginning of our second lap and some races can barely get all the rows off before AA finishes their first lap. We are on the track at the same time as some C riders and mini riders (school boy class) Who have even openly admitted that they cannot keep a straight line and feel bad because the fast riders hit them, go down and crash and they have no control over it. It’s a safety concern that should’ve been talked about and worked on years ago yet here we are in 2022 only three races into the season and it’s worse than it’s ever been.

There are many advantages to going 2 days or splitting up races. It allows for more classes such as a novice girls class and splitting up classes that are way too big that barely fit on our starting lines and many many more possibilities that open when you extend your weekend to both days. As I stated above I am not a part of the committee or series of NYOA. I am just a rider Who is very concerned with my own as well as everyone else’s safety on the race course. If we stand together we can make a change. #go2day
