NYC Students Deserve to Celebrate the Knicks Too
The Issue
The New York Knicks have brought excitement and pride to New York City, and fans across the city want the opportunity to celebrate their achievement. However, the proposed parade date falls on a day when many students are scheduled to take Regents exams.
Students should not have to choose between participating in a once-in-a-generation celebration and fulfilling their academic responsibilities. Holding the parade during Regents testing could create unnecessary conflicts for students, families, and schools.
We respectfully ask Mayor Mamdani to consider moving the parade to Friday, Juneteenth, a holiday when students would not be taking Regents exams. This would allow more New Yorkers, including students, teachers, and families, to safely and responsibly celebrate both the Knicks’ success and the contributions of African Americans, which Juneteenth commemorates.
By moving the parade to Friday, the city can ensure that everyone has the opportunity to participate without disrupting important academic obligations.
We urge New York City leaders to move the Knicks parade to Juneteenth and make this celebration accessible to all.
Sign this petition if you support moving the parade to Friday, Juneteenth.
