NYC DOT: Add Pavement STOP Marking at 187th & Pinehurst

NYC DOT: Add Pavement STOP Marking at 187th & Pinehurst
The Issue
Drivers turning right from Cabrini Blvd notoriously fail to stop at the intersection of 187th Street and Pinehurst Avenue, despite the paired stop signs posted on either side. This creates a serious and ongoing danger for pedestrians.
The risk is especially high for children walking to and from P.S. 187, as well as for neighbors and customers crossing to reach the many local establishments along 187th Street. Pedestrians crossing Pinehurst or crossing 187 from the southeast corner face constant hazards from drivers who roll through or ignore the stop signs.
Pavement "STOP" markings already exist at 185 and Pinehurst, at 186 and Cabrini, all around Margaret Corbin Circle as well as at 187 and Bennett. We need that here. Please!
By adding a pavement marking that clearly says “STOP” in front of the stop line, NYC DOT can reinforce compliance, calm traffic, and help prevent accidents before they happen. This simple, low-cost measure would go a long way toward protecting our children, families, and community.
