The Issue

Sign my petition to tell the NYC ACC to give ALL animals in their facility proper medical care, especially when the state is giving them $52 Million dollars and a 5 year contract to provide such treatments.

The Brooklyn, Manhattan and Staten Island Animal Care and Control center of New York (NYC ACC) are one of the largest animal welfare organizations in the country, taking in approximately 30,000 animals each year. Unfortunately, the ACC is lacking medical treatment for all their dogs in their facility. From administering expired medicines to not testing for life threatening illnesses, one special dog is a great example of the heinous and cruel operation going on behind the walls.

Rusty was a 1 year old male, brown Pit Bull mix who came into the Brooklyn Animal Care and Control center on April 8th, 2015 with an old opened wound on his neck. There was blood dripping from the infected area while dried blood was crusting around his injury. In extreme pain when handled, he was given 1.4mL of Buprenex (pain relief), 1.8mL of Rimadyl (anti-inflammatory), 2.1mL of Baytril (antibiotic to treat susceptible bacterial infections), 200mL of LRS and SQ (Fluids through IV). and his wounds were cleaned with Nolvasan (disinfectant to aid in the removal of dead tissue and debris).

He stayed in the shelter for 3 days, and was then rescued by Second Chance Rescue. Second Chance Rescue is based out of foster homes and Rusty’s foster mom is also on Instagram. His foster mom took him to the vet where it was found that he was in septic shock. He was also found to have blood poisoning. The next day, doctors were supposed to put Rusty under surgery to close the gash on his neck, but found out he had Parvo, a highly contagious viral disease that can produce a life threatening illness, mostly affecting the intestinal track. It was only the day after that, Rusty passed away.

We can stop the unnecessary suffering of our animals. Be the Voice for the Voiceless. Please sign my petition to tell the NYC ACC to give ALL animals in their facility the proper medical attention and end this heinous cycle.
