The NY state Medicaid reimbursement rates for Orthotics and Prosthetics has not seen an increase since the mid 1980's. Although Orthotics and Prosthetics is a small field we have a big impact on the physically disabled community. Orthotists and Prosthetists evaluate, fabricate, deliver, and train their patients on how to use the brace or limb they are supplying. 

The Problem There has not been an increase in reimbursement for 40 years. Cost of living, materials, benefits, and labor have increased making it almost impossible to stay in business. Many companies have been forced to close their doors or sell to larger companies. The patients end up loosing the practitioner they have trusted to care for them over the years and are forced to find a new practitioner who might not have the experience or the knowledge to treat them. 

The Solution An increase in NY State Medicaid reimbursement rates for Orthotics and Prosthetics must be implemented. I do not want to close the doors of a family business that has been around for 40 years nor do I want see any other Orthotics and Prosthetics businesses close.
