Daily vegetarian meal options in public schools in Colorado.

The Issue

There are many students that are vegetarian or for many purposes can not eat certain meats. It is very sad that vegetarians are only left to their own devices and do not have the option of school lunch. If they leave their lunch at home they have to eat meat or be hungry. This is NOT equitable treatment of students!

Furthermore, it is cheaper to provide vegetarian options so not having enough money would be a poor excuse by the state not to do this. And saying that meat is necessary for nutrition is simply ignorant.

For a simple vegetarian things like cheese pizza, grilled cheese, peanut butter and jelly, etc. are not difficult to provide. For vegans that can be more complicated but their culture and diet should be respected. We also have Muslims, Jewish students, and many others that cannot eat pork yet they are expected to deal with that at school.

Further, it is disgusting that milk is offered more than water as a drink with lunch. Forcing students to take a milk shows them that the state supports animal cruelty in dairy farms.
