Remove ineffective zoning policy in NUS

Remove ineffective zoning policy in NUS
The Issue
I applaud the school in making policies shift to shuttle bus services, making the environment safer and cleaner for the well-being and safety of the NUS community. However, I would like to share that the zoning policy is ineffective and it should be removed. Period.
1. The main point of zoning across campuses is to reduce overcrowding,
cross- interaction and prevent cross-infection. The purpose of zoning has outlived its usefulness. Physical classes allow people to travel from the other end of Singapore yet prohibiting people who live in certain designated zones to travel to another part of the school. For example: members of the public are allowed to utilize our school canteen yet prohibiting students from the other zones to have a wider range of food outlet to choose from. We welcome members of public to join us in our food outlets , we are not against members of the public using our food canteen but NUS is showing double standard towards its fellow undergraduates.
2. Next, the students are paying school fees. With the zoning in place, students are no longer allowed to use the facilities as freely as they can . If NUS decides to continue, the university should consider to pro-rate the school fees and return the value of money the students deserve given that most students are not attending in-person class / lab.
Singapore is opening safely. The government is implementing a Mandatory TraceTogether check-in from end-December. Cases have remain low. Companies are re-opening. We understand the need for a safer community but also a policy that makes sense.
