Student nurses have had to face the brunt of covid throughout the pandemic and continue to remain unpaid, with no death in service support and left working with covid to gain valuable experience in which they need to qualify. Yet, should a student catch covid through working on the wards, in the community or private health sector and have to isolate for 10 days as per government and trust guidelines, they must make up hours. The 2019 cohort have been left in a deficits of 300+ hour due to being removed from placements and this amount continues to grow should the student get covid themselves. 
This cohort wants protection that should they have to isolate due to covid, they will not have to make up the hours for them 10 days they spend isolating. Students are happy to work from home, fill out evidence logs of learning through independent research to show learning had occurred but this is currently not an option. 
This cohort has been left hard done by and feels this, with appropriate proof and documentation, will reduce the constant fear of contracting covid and missing more hours.
