Nueces County Judge, Barbara Canales, wants the Nueces County Drainage District No. 2 to forfeit the TEXAS WATER DEVELOPMENT BOARD F1F GRANT, a grant that has already been awarded to Petronila and surrounding areas for drainage/sewage improvements. This money is not costing the tax payers anything. If the committee forfeits the grant there is no guarantee that we can ever get approved for another grant again. Once the funds are given up, they can be used wherever Judge Canales decides, for example North Beach.  A study has already been completed for our area, funds were used for planning but nothing was left to start or complete the actual work.  Some of our community members have been waiting for these funds for 20+ years. Judge Canales has asked us to trust her but how can we when we are constantly overlooked and forgotten by our Elected Officials. Now is the time for our community to come together and raise our voices against this injustice. Our Petronila Community and surrounding areas deserve better. Our elderly and children deserve to be able to walk to their vehicles and bus stops without having to be exposed to diseases coming from stagnant and foul water.  Nueces County Drainage District #2 will be having a meeting on Saturday, January 23, 2021 to decide on the fate of this grant and our community. PLEASE! Help us collect as many signatures prior to this meeting. Show them that WE CARE!  Show them that WE DO MATTER!
