Pancake was a much-loved family pet who was savagely attacked and brutally killed on our own property in Howard Springs, on the 17th of February 2021.

"My dogs started barking and exited through their doggy door, in horror - I saw 3 large lean dogs had entered my yard & were at my back door. The largest dog grabbed my female sausage dog, Maple, who was nursing a litter of 3-week-old pups & shook her violently, my male sausage dog, Pancake ran outside to protect her & they grabbed him, & shook him even more violently. My 83-year-old father ran outside to try to help me in the pouring rain. He escaped the large dog and my father picked him up and tried to hold him above his head, but these dogs jumped up at head height and knocked my frail father violently to the ground. Pancake then ran to me, I grabbed him, but 2 of the dogs grabbed either end of him; by then I was knocked over and on my knees, but I  had cradled Pancake in my arms & gripped him tightly to my chest, but these dogs dragged me approx.7m up to my driveway through the gravel and mud. The dogs then ran up the driveway and kept pulling him to bits like a rag in front of our eyes

The NT Government, NT Police and Litchfield Shire Council were contacted in relation to this incident but more than a month later, nothing has been done to prove that the animals were euthanised or that a fine was issued, or any laws are being changed.

This horrific story is only one of many traumatic dog attacks that happened, not only rural but in Palmerston & Darwin too. We urge everyone to sign this petition and share it with friends and family. This is to see NT Dog Laws for dangerous dogs & dog attacks enforced in the NT, to protect the community from horrors, due to the negligence of unaccountable dog owners.

We the undersigned support the implementation of an Omnibus Bill that will be passed as the Northern Territory’s law for dangerous dogs and dog attacks.

The Legislative Assembly of the Northern Territory supports this bill which will be passed by Parliament as ’Pancakes Law’.
